The History of the Redcliffe Hotel.
The Redcliffe Hotel in Paignton, South Devon, was originally designed by retired Colonel Robert Smith, an accomplished architect, engineer, and artist.
Smith extensively redesigned an existing building he purchased in 1853, adding three wings that housed a glass-domed plunge bath, a picture gallery, and 23 bedrooms and dressing rooms.
After Smith’s death, the property changed hands several times and was converted into a hotel in 1903 without losing its unique appearance. Today, the Redcliffe Hotel is part of The Tudor Hotels Collection.
